Deontay Wilder Demands $10 million To Step-Aside For A Undisputed Fight, Tyson Fury Responds
Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder wants $10 million and a guaranteed shot at the winner in order to step aside for an all British undisputed fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Fury, who beat Wilder by seventh-round stoppage earlier this year was due to face the American for a third time before the ongoing global pandemic shelved those plans. Meanwhile, fellow Brit Joshua was set to face Kubrat Pulev who is the mandatory challenger for one of his three world titles. However, Pulev has already gone on record to express his willingness to step aside for Joshua-Fury. Now it appears Wilder is willing to do the same – for the right price.
An unnamed source told The Athletic Deontay Wilder wants million to step aside as well as an immediate shot at the winner. The source also went on to say ‘The Bronze Bomber’ would be silly to pass up on such an offer.
“Deontay would have to get the (Fury-Joshua) winner guaranteed in the deal, but if he can swing that, he’d actually be stupid to not take the $10 million to not fight. That’d be a record step-aside fee, by far. I’d take that deal so fast and go fight a hopeless guy like Travis Kauffman.”
Two-time opponent and the current number one at heavyweight Fury has already moved to end all talks of paying Wilder to step aside. Speaking on Instagram Live he revealed his plan to beat Wilder again before fighting Joshua for all the belts, he said.
“Wilder’s got a rematch clause. Some newspaper reported that he wanted $10 million to step aside. But I’m not paying him no money to step aside, I’d rather take his scalp again. ‘I’ll beat him in the ring, that’s how I’ll get him out of the way.
“I wouldn’t pay him $2 million to step aside – I’d rather give him another battering again. ‘I’m going to take him out again for the third time, hopefully at the end of the year, and then we’re going to go into 2021 with the biggest fight in boxing history between two undefeated British heavyweights, me and AJ, and we’re going to battle it out for all the gold.” (Transcribed by The Metro)
Should Deontay Wilder accept million if the offer comes to step-aside for Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua?
