Vasiliy Lomachenko & Teofimo Lopez Agree Terms On Unification Fight

Lomachenko

WBC franchise, WBO, WBA “super” lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko will look to unify the division against IBF champion Teofimo Lopez in October.

The two men have been in negotiations for some time and have finally got a deal done according to a report from The Athletic which claims the bout originally scheduled for October 3 will now take place on October 17. The report also claims the fight will no longer be pay-per-view and will broadcast for free on ESPN.

Back in July the fight appeared to be off after Lopez rejected a take it or leave it offer of $1.2m to face off against the pound-for-pound boxing superstar. Now, that obviously isn’t the case and by all accounts, both sides are happy with the split and will square off in just a couple months’ time.

Lomachenko has established himself as the best 135lb fighter by beating Jorge Linares, Jose Pedraza, Anthony Crolla and Luke Campbell.

Lopez on the other has just arrived on the world stage. The 23-year-old had big wins over Mason Menard, Diego Magdaleno, and Edis Tatli before taking a serious step up in opposition to face Richard Commey. Lopez needed just over four minutes to take out Commey and claim the IBF title he will now put on the line against Lomachenko.

Who will win this unification fight? Vasiliy Lomachenko or Teofimo Lopez?
