Adrien Broner: Mayweather Carried McGregor, Planned Tenth Round Finish
Former four-division world champion Adrien Broner says his long-time friend Floyd Mayweather told him he would carry Conor McGregor into the tenth round before stopping him.
Mayweather fought McGregor fought back in 2017. It was one of the most lucrative and successful boxing matches of all-time. Mayweather stretched his unbeaten record to 50-0 by stopping McGregor who was making his professional boxing debut inside ten rounds.
“He carried him to the tenth round, stopped him, like he told me he was going to do, Broner told VladTV. “MMA fighters, they don’t fight twelve rounds, they fight three-five rounds. They don’t fight twelve rounds.”
‘Money’ has since taken on undefeated kickboxing sensation Tenshin Nasukawa in an exhibition fight under boxing rules. The fight took place at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan on December 31, 2018. Mayweather knocked down his opponent three times inside one round before the fight was waved off – he reportedly made $9 million for the bout.
Broner who has been inactive since losing against Manny Pacquiao in January 2019 expressed an interest in taking part in a crossover boxing match against any of the UFC’s biggest stars, he said.
“Hell yeah. You’ve got to think, that’s crossing two support systems. You’ve got the UFC support, then you’ve got the boxing supporters, so the fight’s automatically going to be big. Especially if it’s a big-name UFC fighter. I’d fight anyone of those motherf*ckers, though.”
Broner recently revealed he is ready to return to the ring and is hoping to do so before the year is out, he said.
“If everything opens back up and they open up the arena, then I might fight in December. If not, then I’m not fighting until 2021. I’d be damned if I’m fighting [without fans]. I can’t because they gotta pay me. If my money is right, they are going to have a hell of a fight. In the second half of my career, it’s going to be everything that I want and the way I want to do it. It’s going to be all my way.”
Do you believe Adrien Broner? Did Floyd Mayweather carry Conor McGregor and pre-plan his tenth round KO finish?
