Otto Wallin Calls For Tyson Fury Rematch, Says He Performed Better Than Deontay Wilder
Otto Wallin is hoping to fight WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury again.
With a trilogy fight between him and Deontay Wilder seemingly off for the time being, there has been talk of Fury fighting again in late 2020 to remain active in what is essentially a tune-up fight.
According to Top Rank Boxing promoter Bob Arum, there are five options in mind.
“We end up with five guys who are possible. There’s Efe [Ajagba], the African is there,” Arum said. “There’s Agit [Kabayel], [Oscar] Rivas is there, and there are two others that are there. We’ll have to pick out, see who’s available and pick it out. I mean, Rivas and Efe are Top Rank fighters, and I’m sure we could arrange for them to be available.”
However, Wallin is hoping he is the one who gets the nod.
Wallin notably went the distance against Fury when they fought in September last year. “The Gypsy King” would go on to win via unanimous decision but it wasn’t easy by any means, especially as he suffered a cut near his eye which put him at risk of losing the fight via doctor’s stoppage.
It didn’t help matters for Fury that Wallin also took a swipe at the injured cut during the fight. But despite losing in what was his first professional defeat, Wallin feels he is deserving of a rematch, especially when comparing his performance to Wilder’s earlier this year.
“I deserve a rematch based on my performance against Fury last year,” Wallin said (via Boxing Scene). “I did much better against Fury than Wilder did, better than anybody who has faced Fury and I’m ready to take Wilder’s place.
“I’ve been working very hard since last year and I believe I’ve improved with the experience from fighting Fury and with all the work I’ve put in since that fight.”
Since that defeat, the Swede has only competed once when he TKO’d Travis Kauffman in August.
