Bob Arum Blasts Deontay Wilder’s Manager Over Fury-Wilder 3 Negotiations
Bob Arum is not a fan of Deontay Wilder’s manager, Shelly Finkel.
Arum, who is Tyson Fury’s promoter, blasted Finkel for the handling of negotiations for the trilogy bout between Fury and Wilder. The two were supposed to fight again in December, however, that is no longer the case as the rematch clause expired. Yet, Finkel says it will be Wilder fighting Fury in December which Arum says is not true and blasted the manager for not even reading the contract.
“You know the thing that’s crazy about it is, the last time I talked to Shelly Finkel, was the night of the fight after Wilder had been beat. And I haven’t talked to him since,” Arum said to iFL TV (via EssentiallySports). “Shelly hides in the bushes and then when something that he sees as being averse to his fighter or himself, happens, then he comes out and makes statements, I am sure, I am absolutely sure, not knowing, but I think Shelly Finkel has never read the contract.”
Arum also makes it clear lawyers have looked at the contract and the contract and rematch clause expired. So, Fury doesn’t have to box Wilder next.
“Fury has Robert Davis as his lawyer in the UK. He’s read the contract,” Arum said. “The contract has expired. It’s clear. Shelly can say what he wants.”
It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. The first fight and the rematch were highly-anticipated fights that caught the attention of the entire world. However, after Fury dominated Wilder, the trilogy wasn’t something many fans wanted to see. Instead, many called for Fury to box Anthony Joshua which is now in the plans for 2021.
For now, Tyson Fury will be boxing on December and it won’t be against Deontay Wilder.
