Gennadiy Golovkin To Face Kamil Szeremeta On Dec. 18
Gennadiy Golovkin will return to the ring on December 18 and defend his IBF middleweight title. The 38-year-old will take on Poland’s Kamil Szeremeta, who is the mandatory challenger for the strap. The bout is to be held inside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino, Hollywood.
The undefeated Pole comes into this bout on the back of a stoppage win over Colombia’s Oscar Cortes, which took place on the undercard of the Golovkin- Sergiy Derevyanchenko clash last October.
“This is not just any fight. It is a fight with great meaning,” Golovkin said.
“I always have the greatest respect for all of my opponents. I have really missed boxing, and I wanted to fight this year. The goal — fighting for a record 21st successful world title defense.
DAZN will broadcast the fight, and it will be the Kazakhstani’s third fight of his six-fight deal with the streaming company. Golovkin did not look at his best when he last appeared inside the square circle against Derevyanchenko. A motivated Szeremeta could make the bout more competitive than it seems on paper.
“I want this title for Poland and my family,” Szeremeta said.
“GGG is a great champion, one of the best in history, but it is time for a replacement. Thank you for the great chance. I must take my opportunity to be the first world middleweight champion from Poland.”
The Golovkin fight will mark a busy weekend for DAZN, with the Canelo Alvarez-Callum Smith bout scheduled for December 19.
“GGG is looking to make history this December on DAZN in front of a worldwide audience,” said DAZN EVP Joseph Markowski. “We look forward to launching our Global platform with an action-packed opening month featuring boxing’s biggest stars.”
DAZN will kickoff its global launch with the Anthony Joshua – Kubrat Pulev heavyweight title clash.
