Canelo Alvarez Believes Paul Brothers Are Disrespecting Boxing
Multiple-time, four-division world champion Canelo Alvarez has another name added to his resume, after defeating Callum Smith yesterday, winning three new belts in the process.
It was a very dominant unanimous decision victory, improving his professional record to 54-1-2.
Before the fight, he was interviewed before the fight by TMZ, and was asked what he thought of Logan Paul facing off against his former foe Floyd Mayweather:
“For true fighters, I do believe that it’s a lack of respect. I truly believe that it’s a lack of respect.
“It’s all based on money. It’s all about money. I’m focused right now on other projects, I have other stuff going on. I would invite them over for a sparring session so they truly know what it’s all about.
“It’s all about money and I don’t agree with it. I don’t agree that people who are basketball players or who are YouTubers get licenses. This is a very risky sport, so if they’re going out there, it’s risky.”
More or less, Canelo doesn’t agree with commissions just handing out licenses, and how could we blame him? Look what happens when they do, things like Jake Paul starching Nate Robinson happens.
This is a dangerous sport, and it’s not something that just anyone could do. Most people don’t understand that. It takes years and years of hard work to become one of the best, and these guys get more attention than them.
On the other hand, it’s not like either of the Paul’s or Robinson are great at boxing, so matching famous people up that want to fight one another, sure. Why not?
However, when you get Jake Paul calling out Conor McGregor with complete disregard of what McGregor would do to him, it’s a bit too much. He doesn’t even come close to deserving a fight with McGregor, but eventually, he may get it.
That’s how the business is going these days. Not to mention, McGregor would look at the contract, see all the money he’d get for it, and he’d accept in a heartbeat because it’d be the easiest fight of his life, even in boxing.
It’s an interesting time for combat sports right now, but we’ve got to say, it is pretty entertaining.
