Bob Arum Blasts Vasiliy Lomachenko’s ‘Ridiculous’ Comments About Judges Being Bribed
Bob Arum was not impressed with the recent comments of Vasily Lomachenko.
Lomachenko was outpointed by Teofimo Lopez in their lightweight title unification clash back in October in what was just his second professional defeat.
His team have since claimed that Lomachenko went into the fight with a shoulder injury while the Ukranian most recently claimed there was a judging bias against him. He even went to the extent of saying the judges were bribed.
While one judge in Julie Lederman did have a comical scorecard giving Lomachenko just one round out of the 12 — which Arum himself blasted at the time — he didn’t appreciate his fighter’s latest comments.
“I have to see what Loma wants to do next year,” Arum told IFL TV (via Boxing News 24). “They’re as stupid as the comments [former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay] Wilder made about how he lost to Tyson Fury about how somehow Fury loaded his gloves, and his own corner put stuff in his water.
“It’s ridiculous… With Lomachenko, [judge] Julie Lederman is a very honest person, she was off in that fight [with Teofimo Lopez], only giving Lomachenko one round. But all the judges are high tight people, and I think everyone that watched that fight, whichever way they scored it, whether it was 7-5, 8-4, or 9-3, felt that Lopez clearly won the fight.
“So I think those comments [from Lomachenko] were completely out of line for Lomachenko. When I talk to him, I’ll tell him that.”
Arum’s change of tune on Lederman is interesting given that he called her a ‘crazy judge’ following the fight. However, to his credit, he did score the fight for Lopez and has a point that most people did as well.
Regardless, what do you make of Lomachenko’s comments? Did you agree with him that it was a draw?
