Teofimo Lopez Wants Three Fights In 2021
Teofimo Lopez wants to stay busy in 2021 and by doing so earn another award for Fighter of the Year.
Lopez fought just once in 2020. The youngster picked up the biggest win of his career when he outpointed Vasiliy Lomachenko to become the unified and undisputed 135-pound champion. Lopez will not grant his Ukrainian opponent an immediate rematch. He is instead likely to face unbeaten mandatory challenger George Kambosos Jr.
In 2021, Lopez is determined to keep his momentum going and have a much busier year.
“As we all know, anything we can happen. 2020, we were supposed to fight Lomachenko much earlier in the year,” Lopez told BoxingScene.com. “So, I don’t know want to say what will happen.
“But what I plan to do, assuming everything goes smooth—three fights in 2021. I want to repeat as Fighter of the Year. Now it’s about who’s next. Who do we get to beat on this year?”
“We expect our first fight to be around April or May,” Lopez added. “After that, then another fight around August or September. Then, ideally, we fight again at the end of the year at Madison Square Garden, following the Heisman Trophy awards.”
