Former NBA Star Lamar Odom Signs Celebrity Boxing Deal For June 12

Lamar Odom is no stranger to adversity, being a former member of five different NBA teams, and a two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers.

He’ll now be bringing that ferocity to the boxing ring, as he’s got a deal for June 12 at the Showboat Casino, in Atlantic City, Georgia.

Celebrity boxing creator and CEO Damon Feldman stated that Odom will be matched up with another to-be-announced big-name celebrity.

Odom stated the following in a video he released on Wednesday: “I’m really excited. Who do you guys think I should fight?”

The 41-year-old, 6’10” mountain of a man had a 14-year long NBA career, being drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers 1999, and then going to the Miami Heat in 2003, Los Angeles Lakers in 2004, Dallas Mavericks in 2011, and the Los Angeles Clippers again in 2012, before retiring in 2013 with the Sixth Man Award.

Odom has battled through years of substance abuse, and even survived a near-death experience when he overdosed on a mixture of cocaine, cognac, and marijuana. Odom suffered six strokes and 12 heart attacks while in a coma, it’s quite remarkable he’s alive today.

Odom stated the following about these past issues of his: “I have horrible memory loss, and my long-term memory was affected as well. Athletically, my balance is poo. I was shocked how weak my body became.

“(The overdose) made me realize I couldn’t live the way I’d been living. Life is too good.”

Odom made an attempt at rejuvenating his love for basketball in 2019, where he joined Ice Cube’s Big 3 League, but found he wasn’t up to the challenge.

Fighting, whether it’s just boxing or not, you can’t not be motivated for this. You (he) will get hurt.

However, that being said, it’s completely different from something he’s done his whole life, maybe he does have a considerable amount of motivation for this. It’s something new, and it’s something incredibly exciting.

It will be interesting seeing who they decide to match him up with, and it’ll be even more interesting seeing how he does.

We learned something when fellow former NBA star Nate Robinson stepped into the boxing ring against Jake Paul just a couple months ago, but we’re assuming Odom will be matched up with someone that doesn’t have any experience in fighting.
