Adrian Broner:’I’m Going To Try And Fight Three Times This Year At 140′
It’s been two years since fans have had the chance to see Adrien Broner throwing leather in the squared circle. The now 31-year-old Ohio-native will finally make his return to the ring on Saturday, February 13. No opponent has been officially announced, but regardless, fans will be curious to see how Broner shapes up after his lengthy absence.
“I don’t think it’s about the opponent for Adrien Broner. The fans, even the ones who dislike me, they just want Adrien Broner to go in there and be Adrien Broner. You know, be in shape and get back to being the old AB, I think that’s what I’m coming back around too, and February 13, everybody will see,” Broner said, speaking on Brian Custer’s The Last Stand Podcast.
During the interview, Broner, who has recently lost almost forty pounds, opened up on his battles with his inner demons and how he has struggled to overcome them.
“It was bad when you wake up, you don’t eat, first of all, you barely sleep and then you wake up, and the first thing you do is take a drink, and from that drink, it just leads to another one, and then another one, you look up, and it’s 10:30 at night again, and it’s time to go to the club, and then you spend 10, 15, 20 thousand. And then you wake back up, and it’s the same thing. It’s just depressing and a hard cycle to stop, but I did it.”
” Nothing really gave me a fulfilling smile…nothing gave me the enjoyment laughter and that’s why I was missing. It’s crazy I really only find that type of love and enjoyment in the gym, so I woke up one morning and said ‘ I’m done’. And I’ve been done ever since.”
Broner’s focus is now on making the most of his considerable talents. He has put the 140 division on notice, letting everybody know that he intends to stay active in 2021 and capture a championship title.
“I’m going to try and fight three times this year at 140… I think you’ll definitely see me in a PPV fight this year, and after this fight, people are going to know that twin is back! The way I’m feeling and the way I’m looking right now, sparring probably my next fight, I’ll be world champion again.”
2021 is shaping up to be a pivotal moment in Broner’s professional career, and hopefully, he can keep his depression at bay and focus on what he does best.
