Ryan Garcia Announces He Will Fight Manny Pacquiao Next
Ryan Garcia has announced he will face Manny Pacquiao next time out.
After Garcia knocked out Luke Campbell earlier this month, he talked about fighting Gervonta Davis but also revealed he would love to get the chance to fight Manny Pacquiao. He said that would be his dream fight and one he wanted before Pacquiao called it a career.
“That’s the dream. Manny is a legend and it would be like surpassing him in the humblest way. I don’t want this to sound like I’m being disrespectful, Manny knows my respect for him,” Garcia told ES News (via boxingscene). “People love him because he fights with his heart. You don’t even have to tell people to respect him, because more than one entire country supports him.”
Well, it appears Garcia is getting that fight a lot sooner as he announced on his social media he is fighting Pacquiao next time out.
Several media reports have since come out that the fight is trending in the right direction. What weight class they would fight at is uncertain given Garcia has been competing at 135 while Pacquiao fought at 147. However, it is likely “King Ry” would move up in weight in order to make this happen.
Ryan Garcia, as mentioned, is coming off a body shot TKO win over Luke Campbell. Early on in the fight, Campbell dropped Garcia which was the first time he was dropped in his career. The 22-year-old rising star is 21-0 and holds notable wins over Romero Duno, and Francisco Fonseca.
Manny Pacquiao, meanwhile, is coming off a split decision win over Keith Thurman in July of 2019 to win the WBA (Super) welterweight title. It was his third straight win, but he hasn’t been in the talks of his next boxing fight. He was linked to Conor McGregor, but after he was upset by Dustin Poirier, Pacquiao and his team have appeared to move on to Garcia.
