Report: Sergey Kovalev Fails Second Test For Synthetic Testosterone
Sergey Kovalev has failed a second test for synthetic testosterone.
That’s according to Boxing Scene who reported recently that the Russian had failed a second random Voluntary Anti-Doping Association-administered drug test taken on January 7.
The news comes just over a week from the news of his first failed test earlier this month stemming from a December 30 sample.
“Adverse analytical finding: IRMS (isotope-ratio mass spectrometry) results are consistent with exogenous origin of testosterone and metabolites,” a VADA statement stated at the time.
It led to the cancelation of Kovalev’s planned January 30 catchweight bout against Bektemir Melikuziev.
Kovalev has the right to request a B sample at his own expense much like with the December 30 sample but his boxing future certainly seems cloudy at the moment with this latest news.
However, he and his team were confident it was a case of tainted supplement as they provided a statement after the first test.
“We are aware of the adverse finding from VADA,” Main Events CEO Kathy Duva said. “Sergey Kovalev has been proven to be a clean fighter throughout the many years that he has been tested by VADA. VADA was contracted for this fight at his insistence, as he has requested for almost all of his fights going back several years.
“He maintains that he did not purposefully ingest any banned substances. We have made arrangements to have his supplements tested for contamination and will request that VADA test his B sample.”
For now, all we can do is wait and see what happens.
Do you think Kovalev voluntarily took synthetic testosterone?
