Pacquiao No Longer Interested In Conor McGregor Clash At This Time

President of Manny Pacquiao’s promotional company, MP Promotions, Sean Gibbons realizes the demand for Pacquiao to face Conor McGregor is plummeting following McGregor’s defeat to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257.

McGregor was knocked out at 2:32 of round two by someone he’d knocked out previous, something not many of us, if any were expecting.

Pacquiao and McGregor are under the same management, and there were ongoing talks of a boxing bout between these two taking place in this year of 2021.

The fight no longer makes sense however, considering McGregor’s coming off a serious defeat, as well as there being two trilogies for him to complete in the sport of mixed martial arts.

Sean Gibbons had the following to say on the matter to The Sun: ” (It is) Very unfortunate, it looked like Conor looked past Dustin and got knocked out.

“Maybe he had the Senator on his mind. I think the demand for the fight is not there presently. Conor has some business to clean up and handle in the UFC. It’s a bummer, it could have been fun for as long as it lasted.” 

Now that the McGregor talks are no longer in pursuit, Pacquiao is now in talks with facing 22-year-old undefeated phenom Ryan Garcia. The 42-year-old Pacquiao hasn’t fought since July of 2019, where he won the WBA (super) welterweight championship over formerly undefeated Keith Thurman.

McGregor had the following to say on his fighting future as well: “I always did want to focus on my MMA career, but I’m also open (to boxing). I’ll just see what happens. I don’t know what will happen.

“That Manny fight was happening. It was as good as done. I just want to get in and get back into a bounce, especially against that style of fighter, and not take those kicks. Not play with those kicks. It’s just a motherfucker to take. That’s my mind going.”
