David Avanesyan Stops Josh Kelly In Round Six, Defends EBU WW Title

After being postponed numerous times, we finally got to see the welterweight bout between David Avanesyan and Josh Kelly happen tonight.

This bout went down live from the SSE Arena in Wembley, London, England.

We got to see Avanesyan defend his EBU welterweight championship with this victory, after having a relatively slow start through the first few rounds.

Kelly was putting together some nice combinations in round one, and most of round two was more of the same, with Avanesyan seeming to not be able to find his range.

Rounds three and four were quite close, with Kelly utilizing his jab well, and Avanesyan coming forward, starting to land his own combinations.

Round five is where the tide started to really shift, as Avanesyan continued pressing forward, making it a slugfest. Avanesyan dropped Kelly in round six, but Kelly was able to beat the ten count.

However, Avanesyan didn’t give Kelly any space as he was attempting to recover, and he got dropped again. Kelly’s corner threw in the towel, and Avanesyan was the victor via TKO at 2:15 of round six.

This marked the third defense of Avanesyan’s title, he’s now 27-3-1 as a professional, and this was his 15th victory via knockout.

For the rest of tonight, we have UFC going on, we have more fights left on this card, and we also have another boxing event being held tonight.

We have the return of four-division, six-time world champion Adrien Broner to look forward to in the other boxing event. Broner hasn’t fought since January of 2019, where he was defeated by Manny Pacquiao via unanimous decision.

Actually, Broner hasn’t won a fight since February of 2017, as he’s 0-2-1 in his last three. He has the chance to end that skid here tonight.
