Anthony Joshua Calls For Tyson Fury Bout To Take Place Next
Tyson Fury has been calling fellow Englishmen Anthony Joshua out to a heavyweight showdown for some time now, and it appears he may just get his wish in this year of 2021.
Joshua, the WBA, WBO, IBF, and IBO heavyweight champion would be putting his belts on the line, while Fury would be putting his WBC & Ring Magazine heavyweight championships on the line.
Joshua had the following to say on a potential bout with Fury:
“I don’t know what it is for him, but all I want to do is beat him. He’s in my industry and we’re both front runners, but I want to be number one. This is to be undisputed world heavyweight champion.
“Enough of this Twitter back and forth, it’s about securing the fight and putting on a good show, and using my energy to uplift people, not bring them down.
“I don’t want to demonize his character and use my energy to bring someone down. I know I can beat him. I believe it, and I will prove it.
“So in June I’m looking to defend my titles and I’m looking to claim one more as well. I want all the smoke, I’m looking to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. I’ve been chasing it, I’m born for it and I’m definitely going to do it.”
We had three kings in the heavyweight division for a while there once Fury came back, but then Joshua shockingly lost to Andy Ruiz Jr. He did avenge that defeat and regain his thrones, but there’s one other king no longer on top.
Fury, in his last bout, defeated 11-time WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in their rematch, finishing him off in round seven via TKO.
This was incredibly impressive because Wilder was 42-0-1 with 41 knockouts. The one man that took him the distance, he KO’d in round one of their rematch, and the only blemish, the draw, came to Fury.
Wilder couldn’t do anything the second time around though, Fury was far too superior of a boxer. That sets us up for Tyson Fury vs. Anthony Joshua in the near future!
This is certainly the fight we all need to see, and it’s great to see both men wanting it.
