Ryan Garcia Wants Gervonta Davis Next: ‘I’ll Keep Saying His Name’
WBC interim-lightweight champion Ryan Garcia is hoping he will get the next shot at WBA titleholder Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.
Garcia captured the WBC interim strap by beating Luke Campbell in January. The 22-year-old survived a heavy knockdown in round two before finshing the Olympic gold medalist with a body shot in round seven.
Since then he has been openly pursuing a fight with boxing legend, Manny Pacquiao. In the last few weeks negotiations for that fight have come to an unsuccessful conclusion. Garcia has now turned his attention to Davis.
“I want Gervonta Davis. I wanted it before the Pacquiao fight,” Garcia told DAZN’s Beyond The Bell. “I say his name any chance I get. I’m going to keep saying it, whether people want it or not. That’s what I’m going to be shooting for. If it doesn’t happen, it’s always going to be the other side. Because I say yes. I made the Luke Campbell fight. Yes, yes, yes. I’m in it to get all the greatness I can out of my career.”
Garcia went on to explain that his ultimate goal is to become the greatest boxer of all-time.
“I’m here to one day be the greatest fighter of all time,” Garcia said. “That’s who I strive to be, Muhammed Ali paved the way.
“He showed me how to stand up for things I need to. I think it’s my turn.” (Transcribed by Boxing Scene)
