Canelo Alvarez Coach Open To Training Conor McGregor
The pound-for-pound greatest boxer in the sport, Canelo Alvarez‘ coach, Eddy Reynoso has welcomed the idea of preparing ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor in furthering his boxing career.
Of course, as most of us know, McGregor is 0-1 as a professional boxer, and made his debut in the sport in September of 2017, where he faced the greatest to ever do it, Floyd Mayweather Jr.
He did well early on, winning the first four rounds, though Mayweather more or less let him, in order to fatigue the Irishman.
That previous summer he’d shown a weakness in his ability to keep his stamina at a high level, in each of his fights with Nate Diaz. Of course, he won the rematch, lasting the 25 minutes.
His bout with Mayweather was 36 minutes though, and he lasted just over 28 minutes before being TKO’d due to being too fatigued to defend himself. Canelo also fought, and lost to Mayweather, back when he was just 23-years-old.
McGregor was a sizeable underdog going in, but he’d shown us many times before, you really cannot count this man out.
Earlier this week, UFC President Dana White stated that they’re working on putting McGregor vs. Poirier III together for this summer, considering they’re 1-1 against one another, one knockout victory, and one knockout defeat a piece.
Canelo’s coach had the following to say in that regard: “I think they should do a trilogy fight. It’s 1-1, so the third fight should be good. Here we can support him. We can help to better his boxing and defense.”
“Honestly, when he fought Mayweather, he surprised me. He has a good counter. He has good footwork, waist movement, and agility.
“Therefore, I think he would do good in boxing. Give it your best, keep working hard, don’t quit. You have a lot to give, and get the third fight with Dustin Poirier.”
“There’s bad nights sometimes. Conor has a lot to give, I don’t know what happened, but his career is untouchable.
“He’s a tremendous athlete that’s going to be in the history books. Anytime, this is your home Conor whenever you wanna come practice and learn. We welcome you with open arms.”
This would be absolutely huge for McGregor; not only would he have the best boxer in the sports coach to train with, but he’d also have Canelo himself to learn from.
There were talks of McGregor facing another one of the greatest to ever do it, Manny Pacquiao, up until he lost his rematch with Poirier.
