Jermall Charlo Calls Out David Benavidez: ‘I’mma Knock His Little Punk Ass Out’
Jermall Charlo, WBC’s current middleweight champion, has brazenly called out David Benavidez, in a shock change of tone.
Charlo has previously stated that he wouldn’t be willing to fight anyone under the age of 25. This would seem to have ruled the 24 year old David Benavidez out from a potential matchup in the immediate future. Charlo instead seemed to have his sights set on Canelo Alvarez, at 168lbs.
However, in a recent interview on The Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer, Charlo revealed that he now firmly has his sights set on David Benavidez. He stated the following:
“Yeah. Let’s make that fight happen, I’mma knock his little punk ass out. I promise that. I put that on everything I love.”
“I give him four rounds, five rounds. I know him out in about five rounds, six rounds—no more,” vows Charlo. “He get hit too much. I’m powerful. I’ll explode on him. Trust me, I do my thing. I’ve been doing this all my life.
“Put me in there. Put me in there with… bro, I’m a lion, bro. Let’s get it” (transcribed by Boxing Scene).
Charlo does not yet have a fight booked, so the undefeated Benavidez seems as good a prospect as any. Benavidez is coming off a TKO stoppage over Ronald Ellis, and holds an impressive 24-0 record. Alternatively, Charlo is 31-0, with his most recent outing a decision victory against Sergey Derevyanchenko.
