Tyson Fury Believes Jake Paul’s Success Is ‘Fantastic For The Game’
Whilst many have condemned Triller’s Paul vs Askren PPV event as stain on Boxing’s integrity, Tyson Fury is of another mind.
YouTuber star Jake Paul recently took on former MMA fighter Ben Askren in a PPV main event for Triller Fight Club. It was that Paul took the win, KOing Askren in the first round.
The whole event drew criticism from fans and boxers alike. Boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya gave a bizarre performance in the commentary booth that was somewhat concerning to many fans. The fight itself drew open scorn from Boxing’s p4p number 1, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, who stated that both the Paul brothers are disrespecting the sport.
However, boxing heavyweight Tyson Fury sees the success of influencers like Jake Paul as a positive. Speaking in an interview uploaded by FightHype.com, Fury had the following to say about Jake Paul:
“Absolutely fantastic for the game. These YouTube guys coming to professional boxing brings more eyes to our sport. The kids and more people are watching from different ages because of these guys. So it’s very, very positive for our sport.”
Fury’s mindset in regards to boxers transitioning to boxing maybe be related to the fact that his younger brother Tommy is one of the fighters rumoured to be next for Jake Paul. Names such as Dillon Danis, BJ Penn and Tyron Woodley have also been linked.
Tyson Fury himself is set to face off against Anthony Joshua this summer. The long awaited matchup is rapidly finalising, with the site deal now supposedly agreed upon.
