Devin Haney Call’s Out Ryan Garcia For Being ‘All Cap’
WBC lightweight titlist, Devin Haney has spoken out about Ryan Garcia using Haney’s name to further promote himself.
Garcia had a successful outing in January where he defeated Luke Campbell via 7th round knockout. The winner of this fight was intended to enter talks with the current champion, in this case, Haney. However, rather than follow the script, Garcia started lobbying for money fights against the likes of Manny Pacquiao and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. Both these fights have since failed to materialise.
During the debut of DAZN Boxing Show Akin Reyes and Barak Bess, Haney had the following to say about Garcia:
“Me and my team knew that Ryan Garcia was all cap. We knew that he really didn’t want to fight me. He didn’t really want to fight Tank, he didn’t really want to fight Pacquiao” (via Boxing Scene).
Haney states that Garcia was only linking himself with such names to further increase his publicity.
“It was just… it was all promotion,” insisted Haney. “And only time will tell what’s really going on and as everyone can see that he’s ducking me. Why fight for another mandatory when you could be fighting for a world title?” (via Boxing Scene).
Haney and Garcia now both have separate fights booked. Haney will defend his title against Jorge Linares in May, whilst Garcia faces off against Javier Fortuna in July. Should they both win these upcoming matchups, it is likely we will finally see Haney vs Garcia.
