Ryan Garcia Back In The Gym After Taking Break From Boxing
Ryan Garcia is back in the gym.
Garcia made headlines last month when he pulled out of his planned fight with Javier Fortuna set to take place July 9 in order to take a break from the sport of boxing for mental health reasons.
“I know this news may be disappointing to some of my fans but I am announcing today that I am withdrawing from my July 9th fight,” Garcia wrote. “At this time it is important to manage my health and wellbeing. I have decided to take some time off to focus on becoming a stronger version of myself.
“I hope to be back soon and am looking forward to stepping back into the ring when I am my healthiest self. I want to Thank God, my family, my doctors and my supporters.”
Fortunately, it looks the interim WBC lightweight champion got the break that he needed as he posted a clip of himself back in the gym on Wednesday evening.
“Thank you to everyone showing there support! With the help of my support team and my family, I’m making steps forward. Why anxiety and depression hit me like a truck and why I’m still recovering I’ll never know. But I’m trying to cope with the issues I’m having! This bag is my anxiety and I’m swinging with my full intent to destroy it!! 😤🥊”
There’s no word on a potential next fight for Garcia, but for now, it’s great to hear that he’s in a good place mentally.
Garcia last competed in January when he came back from an early knockdown to TKO Luke Campbell and become the WBC interim lightweight champion.
