Eddie Hearn Reveals Andy Ruiz Jr. Contacted Him For Potential Joshua Trilogy
Andy Ruiz Jr. has put his name in the hat to be Anthony Joshua‘s next opponent.
It appeared as if Joshua would face Tyson Fury next in a highly-anticipated title unification clash. However, that will no longer be happening as Fury was ordered to face Deontay Wilder in a trilogy fight instead.
It was a big blow, but Joshua has to remain active nonetheless.
And as per Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn, Ruiz messaged him on Instagram to be Joshua’s next opponent in a potential trilogy.
“It’s like deja vu, he Instagram messaged me, ‘I’m ready, let’s do it, AJ vs Ruiz Jr III.’ That’s a fight we’d be interested in,” Hearn revealed (via Michael Benson).
At this stage, it appears a meeting between Joshua and WBO mandatory Oleksandr Uysk is more likely.
However, Ruiz is definitely an option along with Joshua facing Dillian Whyte in a rematch.
Ruiz stepped in on short notice and defeated Joshua via TKO for his heavyweight titles in the summer of 2019. However, he would get outpointed in their rematch in December later that year.
The former heavyweight champion has since bounced back with a unanimous decision win over Chris Arreola earlier this month.
