Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Eyeing Canelo Alvarez Rematch After Anderson Silva Fight
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. wants to run things back with Canelo Alvarez.
Chavez Jr. is set to fight former UFC middleweight king Anderson Silva in a 10-round 180-pound catchweight boxing match on June 19.
His plans beyond that? One more fight and then rematching Alvarez as he blamed his poor performance in their first fight on weight issues leading up to the bout.
“Yeah, it’ll be a different fight if we do meet again… I think it will be a great show if we do make it happen,” Chavez Jr. told TMZ (via Bad Left Hook). “After Silva, I’m thinking one more fight, then I’ll be prepared to face Canelo.”
Chavez Jr. first fought Alvarez in a 164.5 pound catchweight bout in May 2017 as he comfortably lost every round to the current WBA, WBC and WBO super-middleweight champion. Since then, he has gone 2-2.
It is highly unlikely he gets his wish to face Alvarez but then again, anything is possible in combat sports.
