Tyson Fury Claims Anthony Joshua Fight Will ‘100 Percent Happen This Year’
Tyson Fury is confident he will still face Anthony Joshua in 2021.
Originally, they were supposed to fight on August 14 but an arbitrator ruled Deontay Wilder was owed the third fight so they will meet on July 24 in Las Vegas. However, according to Fury, he still believes the fight against Joshua will happen.
“I’ve got to beat up Deontay Wilder a bit better than I did last time, because he didn’t get a good enough hiding last time,” Fury said to ESPN (via TheSun). “This time I’m going to really double, double, treble smash him. 100 per cent [I’ll fight Joshua]. AJ’s got a big mouth and no substance. He says I’m the one that does all the talking, but if I didn’t talk boxing would be stone dead because I’m the only character alive left in it. Let’s say that for a fact. [The Joshua fight] happens this year. I’m gonna deal with this mug, Deontay Wilder, I’m knocking him out cold, and then I’m going to deal with the other guy straightaway.”
In the rematch, Fury put the pressure on Wilder and scored a third-round TKO win. It was a dominant performance for the Englishman and in the trilogy, he will likely try and implement the same strategy.
Tyson Fury currently holds the WBC, The Ring, and lineal heavyweight titles. He’s 30-0-1 as a pro and last time out he beat Wilder in the seventh round by TKO. Before that, he beat Otto Wallin and Tom Schwarz to get back into the win column after the controversial draw against Wilder in 2018.
As Fury says, the hope for many boxing fans is Fury and Joshua do end up fighting sometime in the near future. It’s a massive fight for the sport as it would unify the heavyweight division but both men will need to win their next fight.
