Oscar De La Hoya Accuses Canelo Alvarez Of Ducking Jermall Charlo
Oscar De La Hoya believes Canelo Alvarez is ducking Jermall Charlo.
Alvarez has been active and has spoke openly about the fact he’s looking to fight whoever gets put in front of him. However, according to De La Hoya, he commented on social media that he believes the Mexican is ducking Charlo.
“Please, this guy does everything wrong, head up when he throws hooks, on his heels, flat footed. What else? Oh he avoids (Jermall Charlo),” De La Hoya wrote.
Jermall Charlo has actually called out Alvarez, but the fight hasn’t come to fruition. Both men could face Alvarez as it would be intriguing matchups either way.
“I’m down. I’ll fight Canelo,” Charlo told DAZN News back in May. “Right now, that’s what everybody keeps talking about — ‘Canelo, Canelo, Canelo.’ Well, s—t, where he at? I’m here. I got the WBC [title]. What are we going to do? We could unify. We could go to a catchweight, fight 10 rounds. I’m down to do whatever they want to do. I’m a boxer, I’m a man at the end of the day. So, Canelo can get that work, too.”
Jermall Charlo is 31-0 and set to face Juan Macias Montiel on June 19 as he looks to defend his WBC middleweight title. He last fought back on September 26 as he beat Sergiy Derevyanchenko by decision. He also holds notable wins over Cornelius Brundage, Brandon Adams, Matt Koborov, and Hugo Centeno Jr. among others. If he beats Montiel, perhaps the Alvarez fight would happen.
Canelo Alvarez, meanwhile, is coming off a TKO win over Billy Joe Saunders in a highly-anticipated bout. Prior to that, he finished Avni Yildirim in February after beating Callum Smith in December in a dominant performance. He has no fight booked but no doubt has options as people want to face the Mexican.
