Oscar De La Hoya Says Canelo Alvarez Made More Money With Him Than Eddie Hearn
Oscar De La Hoya claims Canelo Alvarez made more money with him than he is right now with Eddie Hearn.
Alvarez was promoted for years under De La Hoya and the Golden Boy Promotions banner, but recently, they had a split and he left and has since been working with Hearn. Since then, both De La Hoya and Alvarez have taken shots at each other and now the boxing promoter says Alvarez isn’t making as much money as he did before.
“I can get over it,” De La Hoya said (via BoxingScene). “It’s business. Business is business. The only thing that kind of like disturbs me a bit is that we had everything teed up for him. He was making more money with us than what he is now, with a different promoter. It just doesn’t make sense.”
It’s uncertain whether that is the case as Alvarez is making tens of millions with Hearn and DAZN and has been active. The Mexican has made it a point to fight as often as possible and Hearn has given him that wish.
Ultimately, for Eric Gomez, the president of Golden Boy, says the promotion is just picking up and is not one foot out the door as some suggest.
“We’ve been counted out before,” said Gomez. “People forget. Canelo just didn’t become a big star the way that he did. [Floyd] Mayweather didn’t become a big star [on his own]. There’s a formula, too, there’s a way, there’s a process. We lived it. We built it. So there’s a way and there’s a formula and there’s a blueprint. People forget that. We have the blueprint.
Regardless of what De La Hoya says, there’s no doubt he dislikes Alvarez now and will continue to take shots at him.
