Report: Canelo Alvarez Finalizing Fight With Caleb Plant For September 18
A highly-anticipated super middleweight title unification clash between Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant is nearly finalized.
The pair have been slated to fight ever since Alvarez won the WBO title off Billy Joe Saunders in May. And despite what seemed to be some negotiation issues, there has now been some major progress as of Tuesday.
Various reports have stated that the bout is almost signed on to take place September 18.
“I think it’s going to happen for real,” one official close to the talks told The Athletic on Tuesday. Asked if the bout will be broadcast by Fox pay-per-view, the official said, “that sounds perfect.”
If confirmed, the winner will get the chance to unify the 168-pound division and hold all four major belts.
Alvarez currently holds the WBA, WBC and WBO titles while Plant holds the IBF title. The bout will likely take place in Las Vegas.
