WBO Orders Terence Crawford vs. Shawn Porter Title Fight

A welterweight title fight between Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter has been ordered by the WBO.

The WBO sent the letter with the order out on Wednesday night to Top Rank Boxing and Premier Boxing Champions.

Both promotions have 30 days to negotiate a fight. If no deal is reached during that period, a purse bid will be ordered where parties can auction to broadcast the fight.

However, there should hopefully be no negotiation issues in booking this particular fight.

Crawford last competed in November when he TKO’d Kell Brook to retain his WBO welterweight title. The pound-for-pound star has been criticized for his level of competition lately, but in Porter, he faces arguably his toughest test in a while.

“I’ve been begging for a real challenge for years,” Crawford told ESPN. “All the so-called elite welterweights have shown no interest in fighting me. Now one of them is finally being forced to.

“I’ll show once again why I’m the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Be ready.”

Porter, meanwhile, hasn’t competed since outpointing Sebastian Formella in August. His last outing prior to that was a split decision defeat to Errol Spence Jr. in September 2019.

He will undoubtedly jump at the chance of becoming a welterweight champion again.
