Eddie Hearn Interested In Brook vs. Khan On One Condition
Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn says he may take an interest in booking Kell Brook vs. Amir Khan but only on one condition.
Kell Brook and Amir Khan have long expressed interest in fighting one another. The bout never materialized when both men were in their primes but the two remain interested in sharing the ring. Hearn is also intrigued by the match but his willingness to pay for the fight has limits.
During a chat with Boxing Social, Hearn explained what it would take for him to make an effort to book Brook vs. Khan these days (h/t Boxing News 24).
“It depends on the money, really. I think I would do the fight, but it’s not a fight that it once was. It’s still a great fight [Khan vs. Brook], and it’s still interesting. It’s an auction in that situation where you’ve got two guys that want to make as much money as they can, and for sure, we’d do it on a card.
“We’ve spoken to both guys, and yeah, I’d like to do the fight but at the right price as well. Khan – Benn, that’s a tremendous fight. That’s a much better fight than Brook-Khan, for me because you’ve got a young lion in Conor Benn against a British boxing legend in Amir Khan.”
Brook has declined since suffering the first loss of his pro boxing career to Gennady Golovkin back in Sept. 2016. He suffered a broken eye socket in that bout. Brook suffered another broken eye socket in his next bout against Errol Spence Jr. Brook was also stopped in that fight. He’s coming off a fourth-round TKO loss to Terence Crawford.
As for Khan, he hasn’t been a world champion in years. He did, however, emerge victorious in his last outing. He defeated Billy Dib via fourth-round TKO back in July 2019.
