Terence Crawford vs. Shawn Porter Set For Purse Bids After No Progress

In what shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, Terence Crawford vs. Shawn Porter is set for a purse bid.

The WBO recently ordered a title fight between the pair in what many believe to be Crawford’s toughest test since moving up to 147 pounds.

However, that was nearly a month ago and as per Boxing Scene, Crawford and Porter’s promoters, Top Rank and PBC respectively, have had infrequent discussions since with not much movement towards an agreement.

With the WBO’s deadline of Friday, barring a miracle, a purse bid will be ordered by the organization.

“BoxingScene.com has been informed Top Rank and one of the promoters that operates on behalf of Haymon’s PBC would bid on what would be a pay-per-view bout between Crawford (37-0, 28 KOs), the WBO 147-pound champion, and Porter (31-3-1, 17 KOs), the WBO’s number two contender for Crawford’s championship.”

If Top Rank wins the bid, the pay-per-view event would be broadcast by ESPN while if PBC wins the bid, it will be FOX Sports pay-per-view event.

Hopefully, all of this is sorted out soon so we can see the pair lock horns in the ring as it promises to be an explosive encounter.

Crawford, in particular, is looking to make a statement against Porter.

“I’ve been begging for a real challenge for years,” Crawford said last month. “All the so-called elite welterweights have shown no interest in fighting me. Now one of them is finally being forced to.

“I’ll show once again why I’m the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Be ready.”
