Oscar Valdez Tests Positive For Banned Substance, Robson Conceicao Fight In Doubt
Oscar Valdez may not be fighting next month.
The reigning WBC junior lightweight champion was set to defend his title for the first time against Brazil’s Robson Conceicao on September 10.
However, it was revealed Tuesday that he produced a positive “A” sample for a banned substance in a test conducted by VADA (via Mike Coppinger).
“Oscar Valdez’s A-sample tested positive for phentermine, a central-nervous stimulant.”
Phentermine is a banned in-competition substance as per WADA. It is an appetite suppressant which is usually used to help with the weight cut.
The WBC confirmed the adverse finding and are investigating the matter as of now. A hearing will be held with Valdez soon as well.
“Oscar Valdez has had an “adverse analytical finding” in a WBC/VADA Clean Boxing Program drugs test, the WBC have confirmed – they are now investigating the matter and will hold a hearing with WBC super-featherweight champion Valdez and his team very soon.”
Whether the 130-pound title fight goes ahead? As things stand, it doesn’t look that way.
