Mauricio Lara vs. Josh Warrington 2 Ends In Draw Due To Headbutt
The rematch between Mauricio Lara and Josh Warrington ended in disappointing fashion.
Lara and Warrington did battle a second time inside Emerald Headingley Stadium in Leeds, England. The bout came to a close early after the second round. This was due to an accidental clash of heads. The doctor determined that Lara couldn’t continue. Since the stoppage off the headbutt happened before four rounds were completed, the bout was ruled a technical draw.
Here are some highlights.
Back in February, Lara stunned the boxing world when he stopped Warrington. After their first encounter, Warrington issued a statement.
“I went to hospital on Saturday night, just as a precaution, and passed all the tests. It was the first time I have been down and touched the canvas as a professional,” Warrington said.
“I’ve got a fracture on my jaw and some swelling around my lips but that is to be expected when you trade with a big-punching Mexican,” Warrington added. Congratulations to Lara, he grabbed his opportunity. Looking back, I should have boxed more clever and made it easy for myself.”
Many wondered how Josh Warrington would fare in a second clash with Lara. The first two rounds had the makings of a great fight but of course, it ended quickly.
It’s a tough break for Warrington, who was trying to avenge the only loss of his pro boxing career.
