Bob Arum Details Plans For Terence Crawford vs. Shawn Porter
Top Rank Boxing’s Bob Arum has unveiled his plans for a WBO Welterweight Title showdown between champion Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter.
Crawford is considered to be one of the pound-for-pound best boxers in the world. The one knock on Crawford for many is that he has yet to have that signature fight. A bout with Porter would be the most high-profile fight Crawford has had.
Arum says he’s hard at work to try to make the bout happen. He detailed plans for the title fight during an interview with ESNews (via BoxingScene.com).
“We talked to PBC as late as yesterday and it looks like Porter is on board or close to being on board, and hopefully, Terence will be on board and we’ll announce that fight next week hopefully. We want it in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay, and we’re holding the arena for Nov. 20.
“If we are going to survive as a sport, you have to have the talented guys fight each other because that’s what people want to see. We’ve got to do that on a regular basis and hopefully that’s what’s going to happen in the months and years ahead.”
Crawford last competed back in Nov. 2020. He put his WBO gold on the line against Kell Brook. “Bud” stopped Brook via fourth-round TKO. The win improved Crawford’s record to a perfect 37-0.
Porter hasn’t been inside the ring since Aug. 2020. He went one-on-one with Sebastian Formella. Porter won the fight via unanimous decision.
Terence Crawford has made it clear that he wants a big fight at welterweight.
“I’ve been begging for a real challenge for years,” Crawford told ESPN. “All the so-called elite welterweights have shown no interest in fighting me. Now one of them is finally being forced to.
“I’ll show once again why I’m the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. Be ready.”
