Oscar Rivas vs. Bryant Jennings Rematch Set For October

Oscar Rivas and Bryant Jennings will have their rematch for the WBC Bridgerweight Belt on October 22.

BoxingScene.com reports that the current WBC No. 1 contender for the vacant WBC title and adopted Quebecer, Rivas will rematch the No. 3 rated Bryant Jennings on Oct. 22. The fight will also happen at the L’Olympia de Montréal, which marks the return of American television to Canada for the first time since December 2018, the fight will happen on ESPN+.

Rivas and Jennings first met back in January 2019, in Verona, New York where it was a back-and-forth fight. Entering the 12th round, it was a toss-up as to who was winning but Rivas came out aggressive and dropped Jennings and the ref waved off the fight. Ever since then, Jennings has been calling for a rematch and he finally gets his wish, with a belt on the line.

Oscar Rivas (27-1) is coming off a win over Sylvera Louis back in March in Quebec to return to the win column after losing a decision to Dillian Whyte in 2019 for the vacant WBC interim heavyweight title. He also holds notable wins over Fabio Maldonado, Carl Davis Drumond, and Joey Abell among others.

Bryant Jennings (24-4) returned to the ring in July of 2019 and lost a decision to Joe Joyce after losing to Rivas in January of 2019. Prior to the setbacks, he was on a four-fight winning streak and holds notable wins over Alexander Dimitrenko, Mike Perez, Bowie Tupou, and also fought Wladimir Klitschko and Luis Ortiz.

Also on the Rivas-Jennings undercard, Sébastien Bouchard (19-2, 8KO) will return to the ring. Alexandre Roberge (1-1) and Francis Charbonneau (3-1, 1KO) will rematch after their fight which Charbonneau won by split decision. The evening’s other fights will be announced later this week.
