Anthony Joshua Speaks Out On Loss To Oleksandr Usyk
Anthony Joshua has suffered the second loss of his pro boxing career and he’s spoken out about it.
On Sept. 25, Joshua put the WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Titles on the line against Usyk. The action was held inside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England.
Joshua had trouble dealing with Usyk’s movement. While “AJ” had his moments, it was Usyk who outboxed him throughout the contest. Usyk ended up scoring the unanimous decision victory.
Joshua didn’t stay in the ring for a post-fight interview, but he did briefly address his supporters on Twitter.
“Keep positive even if the world’s crumbling in front of you! London I love you & thank you each and every time!”
Joshua was hoping to emerge victorious against Usyk and move on to an undisputed heavyweight title fight against the winner of Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3. Fury-Wilder 3 will take place on Oct. 9 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (via BoxingScene).
“So, we both have important fights of our career, both 50-50 fights as well, which is really good for boxing at the end of the day,” Joshua said. “So, inevitably I’ve got a rematch clause if the worst happens. I’m not too sure what Fury’s situation is. So, if I lose, I’m fighting Usyk again, the undisputed [title fight] gets put on hold. If I win, I’ll fight either one of them. If Fury wins, I’ll fight Fury. If Wilder wins, I’ll fight Wilder. If Fury wins and doesn’t take the fight with me because – on his hit list, he said that he wants to fight, I think he said he wants to fight Dillian [Whyte] first or [Dereck] Chisora first, or something like that – then I’ll fight Wilder.”
Instead, Joshua will now focus on healing up before exercising his rematch clause against Usyk. This puts any hope of an undisputed title fight on hold yet again.
