Canelo Alvarez Reveals How Long He Plans To Keep Fighting
Canelo Alvarez has detailed how long he wants to keep fighting.
At the age of 31, Canelo is in the prime of his pro boxing career. He is just one win away from being recognized as the undisputed super-middleweight champion. He currently holds the WBC, WBA, WBO, and The Ring Titles. The only piece of hardware left is the IBF gold, which is held by Caleb Plant. The two will collide on Nov. 6.
Despite still being young, Canelo has already had 59 pro fights. His record is 56-1-2. In 38 of those fights, Canelo Alvarez scored the knockout or TKO finish.
Canelo spoke to Fight Hype and revealed how many more years he has left in him (via Michael Benson).
“Canelo Alvarez has revealed that he plans to continue fighting for seven more years.”
This isn’t the first time Canelo has discussed his seven-year plan. Back in May, he outlined wanting to keep going for another seven years or until his body gives out on him. Here’s what he told reporters at the time (via BoxingScene).
“We have always been open about what are short and long-term plans have been. I want to unify the 168lb division, and Caleb Plant would be next in line to secure that short term goal. The goal is to be undisputed at 168lbs and then we’ll see. I think I have about seven years left until I retire, but I’m listening to my body and when it tells me to quit, I’ll quit.”
Canelo is widely considered to be the pound-for-pound best boxer in the sport. Many expect him to shoot for the undisputed light heavyweight distinction if he gets past Caleb Plant. While Canelo has denied making the trip back to light heavyweight in the future, many believe there’d be nothing left for the Mexican star at super-middleweight if he’s successful against Plant.
