Mike Tyson Questions If Wilder Just Wants A Payday In Fury Trilogy

Mike Tyson has questioned whether or not Deontay Wilder simply just wants a paycheck for his trilogy fight with Tyson Fury.

Wilder will meet Fury a third time on Oct. 9. The bout will be contested for the WBC Heavyweight Championship. It’ll be held inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Ahead of fight night, “Iron” Mike admitted to ESNews that he’s unsure what Wilder’s motives are for wanting the third fight with Fury after being severely outmatched in the rematch back in Feb. 2020 (via Boxing News 24).

“I like Wilder, but is he going in there to win or is he going in there for a big payday? Is he really going in to win?”

Tyson went on to say that he’d like to see newly-minuted WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk face the likes of Wilder.

“I want to see [Oleksandr] Usyk fight these other guys; Wilder, Ruiz, I want to see Usyk fight those guys. Those guys are more experienced than Joshua.”

We’ve seen Usyk dethrone Joshua and take his heavyweight gold. Joshua is likely to exercise his rematch clause in due time. From there, we’ll see where things stand in terms of a potential undisputed heavyweight title fight.

In the past, Mike Tyson has been critical of Wilder. He told ESPN that “The Bronze Bomber” needs to stop making excuses for his loss to Fury in their rematch.

“When Wilder gets his head out of his butt, he’s good. Wilder just gotta stop internalizing stuff, this guy is great,” Tyson said. “Just keep on fighting. Fight [Fury] again; fight him a third time. Whenever you have an opportunity to fight for the title, he should fight. We can only do this for a certain amount of time in our life, and then we can’t do it anymore. So we have to do it as much as we can before we end this stuff.”
