Terence Crawford Looks To Solidify Greatness Against Shawn Porter
WBO Welterweight Champion Terence Crawford knows what a win over Shawn Porter would do for him.
Crawford will put his gold and undefeated record on the line against Porter on Nov. 20. This is a big fight for Crawford, who has long been seeking elite competition to solidify his place in the pound-for-pound rankings.
Appearing on ESPN’s Get Up!, Crawford discussed what a victory over Porter would mean (h/t BoxingScene.com).
“They will be saying that’s the reason why he is pound-for-pound the number-one fighter in the world. I guarantee you that.”
Crawford went on to say that Porter has fought just about every top welterweight you can think of.
“What does it mean to face Shawn right now is putting that extra stamp on being considered the best welterweight. Shawn Porter has fought everyone in the welterweight division dating back to when he was facing the likes of Julio Diaz, Paulie Malignaggi and those types of guys.”
This will be the final bout for Terence Crawford on his current deal with Top Rank Boxing. Many believe it’s a foregone conclusion that he will leave the promotion in favor of PBC in order to get a fight with WBC and IBF Champion Errol Spence Jr. Of course, nothing is set in stone in terms of Crawford’s future after Nov. 20.
If Crawford defeats Porter, one would imagine he’ll be due for a massive fight with Spence. Currently, Spence is recovering following an eye procedure that took him out of a scheduled clash with boxing legend Manny Pacquiao, who retired following a unanimous decision loss to Yordenis Ugas. There is no timetable for Spence’s return and he doesn’t plan on rushing things.
