Gervonta Davis vs. Isaac Cruz Set After Rolly Romero Pulls Out Due To Sexual Assault Allegations
Gervonta Davis will now defend his WBA ‘regular’ lightweight title against Isaac Cruz.
“Tank” was originally set to defend his crown against Rolly Romero on December 5 in what looked to be a heated grudge match between the pair.
However, Romero had to pull out recently due to sexual assault allegations made against him.
Instead, Cruz will step up and take Romero’s place. The fight was announced by Mayweather Promotions on Wednesday.
The fight will headline Showtime’s pay-per-view event taking place December 5 in Staples Center, Los Angeles. Tickets are available on AXS.com.
Davis is coming off an 11th-round TKO of Mario Barrios in June after a back-and-forth war. The win earned Davis the WBA ‘regular’ super lightweight title.
Cruz, meanwhile, is coming off a unanimous decision win over Francisco Vargas in June. The Mexican holds an overall professional boxing record of 22-1-1.
