Floyd Mayweather vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Verbally Agree To An Exhibition In 2022
Floyd Mayweather may be getting back in the ring for an exhibition bout against Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.
During the WBC’s annual convention, president Mauricio Sulaiman addressed those in attendance while Floyd Mayweather and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. were on stage and claimed the two had agreed to an exhibition match. He said the fight would be happening in 2022 and they had a location in mind.
“At the same time they turn to each other, and they said ‘let’s do an exhibition’. Chavez and Floyd, and they’re here to announce they will be doing an exhibition next year, either in Mexico or in Texas where many Mexicans will be,” Sulaiman said to the crowd.
Although it is verbally agreed, the fight between Mayweather and Chavez Sr. has not been announced or made official. With that, there is a chance it doesn’t happen, but if it does, it is a fight between two legends who are looking to make more money in what would be a light sparring match.
Floyd Mayweather (50-0) last fought professionally in August of 2017 as he scored a TKO win over Conor McGregor. It was a highly-anticipated fight and after the fight, he announced his retirement. He has done some exhibition matches as he fought Tenshin Nasukawa in 2018 in RIZIN where he TKO’d him. He also just competed in an exhibition match against Logan Paul where they went all eight rounds. After the fight, the 44-year-old says he was done with boxing but it appears he isn’t.
Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. (107-6-2) who is 59-years-old is one of the best Mexican boxers of all time as he is multiple-time world champion in three different weight classes. He started out his career out 89-0-1 and competed against the who’s who of his time. He did just have an exhibition match in June in Mexico in what was supposed to be his retirement fight but it appears he may have one more in him.
