Floyd Mayweather Thinks Canelo Alvarez Is Ducking David Benavidez
Floyd Mayweather believes Canelo Alvarez is ducking David Benavidez.
Alvarez became the new unified super middleweight champion following his 11th-round TKO win over Caleb Plant last month.
The Mexican superstar was quick to announce his next move as he is now slated to move up to cruiserweight to challenge Ilunga Makabu for his WBC title.
While Makabu is naturally a much bigger fighter than Alvarez, many believe he is the easiest champion at cruiserweight to fight for the latter. Alvarez is even a heavy favorite already.
That is partly why Mayweather believes his old foe is ducking former WBC super middleweight champion and undefeated top contender Benavidez (via Michael Benson).
“Canelo’s a helluva fighter, but in my personal opinion he’s ducking David Benavidez… Do I like this [Ilunga Makabu] fight? Absolutely not. We wanna see Benavidez,” Mayweather said.
As far as Alvarez is concerned, there is only one reason why he isn’t fighting Benavidez.
“Right now, I can do whatever I want,” he said recently. “I faced all the 168lbs world champions; I took the title from all of them. Now I do what I want. I do what I want.”
When it eventually happens, however, Alvarez vs. Benavidez will certainly be a cracker.
