Deontay Wilder Uncertain About Fighting Again: ‘It’s Mixed Feelings’

Deontay Wilder

Deontay Wilder doesn’t know if he will box again.

Wilder is coming off back-to-back knockout losses to Tyson Fury for the WBC heavyweight title. They were tough losses for Wilder as the two were rivals and since the loss, there has been no talk of his next fight. Now, the former champ says he isn’t sure if he will fight again.

“It’s mixed feelings because ultimately I have accomplished all my goals in this sport. I told my daughter when she was one that I’d be a champion and I’d be able to support her beyond her belief,” Wilder stated during Kevin Hart’s show on the Laugh Out Loud Network (via Boxingscene).

“I’ve done [the things I promised to my daughter]. There’s a lot of things that I’ve accomplished that I feel I [don’t] have to prove [anything] to anyone because I’ve already proven [it to myself]. Should I push forward? Should I give it a go one more time? Or should I just retire and focus on the other things that I already have, other things that I want to get into?”

If Deontay Wilder does retire he will go down as one of the best knockout artists in the heavyweight division. “The Bronze Bomber” had the one-punch death touch of sorts and he showed it off countless times in his career. Yet, there is no doubt there is still a lot of fight left in him and he can still become champ again.

Wilder is currently 42-2-1 as a pro and before the losses to Fury he was on a dominant reign as WBC champ. He has wins over the likes of Luis Ortiz, twice, Chris Arreola, and Artur Szpilka among others.

What do you make of Deontay Wilder possibly retiring from boxing following the losses to Tyson Fury?
