WBA Orders Gervonta Davis vs. Rolly Romero Once Again
Gervonta Davis vs. Rolly Romero is back on the menu.
On Monday, the WBA ordered Davis to once again defend his lightweight title against Romero in a matchup that is set to take place in the next few months.
Both parties have 30 days — until February 24 — to reach an agreement for a fight.
“The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee ordered the lightweight world title fight between champion Gervonta Davis and mandatory challenger Rolando Romero #DavisRomero
“The pioneer body sent the formal communication to both teams of both fighters, who will have 30 days, which expires next February 24, to reach an agreement #DavisRomero”
The pair were initially set to collide in a grudge match taking place last month on December 5.
However, that didn’t end up being the case as Romero had to withdraw due to sexual assault allegations against him.
Romero maintained his innocence during this time and in the end, was cleared of all charges earlier this month.
Davis would instead face Isaac Cruz and defend his WBA (Regular) title by outpointing the Mexican over 12 rounds.
“Tank” injured his hand during his win over Cruz which means he might not be able to fight soon.
However, Romero will eventually get his wish and end up fighting Davis in the near future — provided there are no other complications.
Do you think Rolly Romero can upset the odds and hand Gervonta Davis his first defeat?
