Controversial Josh Taylor-Jack Catterall Scorecard Referred To Police By The Speaker Of The House Of Commons

Entering Josh Taylor’s title defense against Jack Catterall, he was a massive favorite and not many were giving him much of a chance. However, Catterall fought much better than expected.

In the fight, Catterall was the one leading the dance and landing the harder shots and when the final bell rang, many thought it was clear that Catterall pulled off the upset. The commentators even said they believed the underdog pulled off the upset but the judges ended up giving Taylor the win by split decision.

Since the fight, many have called it a robbery and now an MP has brought up the scorecard in the House of Commons.

“Everyone is disgusted by what’s happened – it brings the sport into disrepute,” Sir Lindsay Hoyle, Catterall’s MP in Chorley, told Sportsmail (via SkySports). “I have to question why the judges got it so wrong? I have already sent a letter to the police. I have spoken to Nadine Dorries, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport and the Minister for Sport, Nigel Huddleston – they are both looking into this. I also believe that something seriously went on here – whether it was undue influence, one must question why?”

Along with this MP bringing it up in the House of Commons, the British Boxing Board of Control is also investigating the result. It has been a major controversy in the boxing world but Taylor said after the fight he didn’t think a rematch would be next but has since hinted that it might happen.

“Of course, I think he deserves it,” Taylor said. “We’ll see what happens down the line – we can have a fight again with Jack, why not. I’m certainly open to it, so we’ll see what happens. Most likely at a catchweight. I can’t make the weight anymore safely, I don’t think. So we’ll see how it goes, but I’m keen for a rematch.”
