Report: Oleksandr Usyk Allowed To Leave Ukraine, Will Train For Anthony Joshua Rematch

It looks like we’ll be getting the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Anthony Joshua rematch next after all.

As per ESPN, Usyk has been permitted to leave Ukraine by the country’s sports minister.

He will now begin training for his highly-anticipated rematch with Anthony Joshua in the summer, having crossed the border to Poland.

The rematch was initially in doubt as Usyk was in Ukraine defending his country amid the ongoing Russian invasion.

As per martial law, any Ukrainian man fit to serve and aged 18 to 60 are required to remain in the country and defend it.

Usyk, himself, harbored doubts as to whether the rematch would be next.

“I really don’t know when I’m going to be stepping back in the ring,” he said recently. “My country and my honor are more important to me than a championship belt.”

Joshua has since spoken of facing an alternate opponent in the meantime.

However, with Usyk now receiving permission to leave Ukraine, the rematch can finally take place.

Their first meeting took place in September and saw Usyk outbox Joshua over 12 rounds to become the new heavyweight champion.

Joshua would invoke his rematch clause soon after.
