Andy Ruiz Jr. Set To Headline Triller Card Against Tyrone Spong In July
Andy Ruiz Jr. will be back in action in July as he headlines a Triller Fight Club card.
On Wednesday, it was revealed that Ruiz Jr., the former unified heavyweight world champion will face the undefeated Tyrone Spong on Saturday, July 16 and emanating from the historic Plaza de Toros in Mexico City, Mexico.
Triller says the ten-round main event will headline a card broadcast on pay-per-view. The entire broadcast will be produced by Nigel Lythgoe, award-winning producer of “So You Think You Can Dance” and “American Idol.”
“Triller and Fight Club like to trailblaze. We have high expectations for this event. It matches the world’s best heavyweights in boxing and MMA in a battle to determine who is the best. Surrounding it with a Trillerfest where the best musicians, Verzuz, sports, and celebrity events will bookend this historic fight,” said David Tetreault, President of Triller Fight Club.
Andy Ruiz Jr. (34-2) returned to the win column last time out as he beat Chris Arreola by decision which was his first fight following the back-to-back bouts against Anthony Joshua. Of course, Ruiz Jr. shocked the world back on June 1, 2018 as he TKO’d Joshua to become the unified heavyweight champion. However, in the rematch, he was dominated and lost the fight by decision.
Ruiz Jr. also holds notable wins over Kevin Johnson, Devin Vargas, and Joe Hanks among others while his other loss came to Joseph Parker.
Tyrone Spong (14-0 in boxing) is a decorated kickboxer as he fought in Glory Kickboxing and K1 among other promotions. He has also done MMA and last competed in MMA back in January at Eagle FC 44 as he suffered a TKO loss to Sergei Kharitonov in his first MMA fight in 9 years.
In boxing, Spong hasn’t fought anyone as highly-rated as Ruiz Jr. so this will be a very intriguing matchup to see how he fares. His most notable win was over Ytalo Perea but out of his 14 wins, 13 have come by knockout.
Who do you think will win, Andy Ruiz Jr. or Tyrone Spong?
