Callum Smith Believes Dmitry Bivol Can Pose A Lot Of Problems For Canelo Alvarez
Callum Smith doesn’t think Canelo Alvarez will walk through Dmitry Bivol as many think.
Alvarez is set to fight Bivol for his WBA “Super” Light Heavyweight in a very intriguing matchup. Many think this will be another easy fight for Alvarez, but for Smith who the Mexican has beat, he thinks this is a much closer fight than many think.
“I think it’s similar to a few of Canelo’s fights where he’ll have to come from behind early,” Smith shared with BoxingScene. “Then, finish strong and probably win on points. It’s a good fight. I think a lot of people are bypassing Bivol. But he’s a very good fighter. Stylistically, he’ll be effective in there without taking chances and Canelo will have to work very hard to get the job done. Bivol is very clever. Who knows, maybe Canelo brings out the best in Bivol. It’s no foregone conclusion. Who knows, Canelo might have to finish him to get the victory.”
According to Callum Smith, he says Bivol is super underrated as he is just a very solid boxer and is hard to beat. He knows how to win the rounds while Alvarez usually takes his time to get going so perhaps Bivol can get ahead of the Mexican early.
“It’s a good fight; Bivol is a very good fighter,” pointed out Smith. “We boxed a lot as amateurs, I’ve always kept my eye on him. He doesn’t set the world on fire but he always does enough. He’s very hard to beat, he’s good at what he does and he doesn’t take many chances. It’s an interesting one.”
Should Alvarez win, it seems likely the trilogy bout against Gennady Golovkin will be next. As for Callum Smith, does not have his next fight booked.
