Errol Spence Jr. Believes Terence Crawford Fight Happens Next: ‘I Don’t See Any Stumbling Blocks’
Errol Spence Jr. is confident the mega fight between him and Terence Crawford happens this year.
For years now, many fans have wanted to see Spence Jr. face Crawford as the two are clearly the best at welterweight and it is a massive fight for their legacies. Yet, both men have accused the other of not wanting it but now Spence Jr. says he believes it will happen.
“I think it’s gonna happen,” Spence Jr. told Showtime’s Jim Grey. “It’s a fight I definitely want. I definitely want it. I think it will happen this year. Hopefully we can make it happen. It can happen because I want it, he want it. Hopefully it can happen by the end of this year. It’s a huge fight for both of us. I don’t see any stumbling blocks. I want it. He want it. I got three belts, he got one belt. That’s the only belt I need to become undisputed welterweight champion of the world. That’s been something I’ve been very adamant about doing, so we’re gonna get it done.”
Errol Spence Jr. is 28-0 and coming off a dominant TKO win over Yordenis Ugas to retain his WBC and IBF welterweight title while also winning the WBA (Super) welterweight title. Terence Crawford, meanwhile, is 38-0 and coming off a TKO win over Shawn Porter in November and beating Kell Brook by TKO the year before. He’s the current WBO welterweight champ and Spence Jr. believes it is the biggest fight to make in boxing.
“It’s just talking stages right now. We’re talking about it now,” confirmed Spence Jr. “Al told me he wants the fight. [Crawford has] been vocal about it. I called him out after my fight for later this year. It’s undisputed. It’s the biggest fight in boxing. A lot of fans want to see it.”
