Mikey Garcia Retires From Boxing
Mikey Garcia has retired from boxing.
Garcia last fought back in October when he dropped a decision to Sandor Martin and there has been no talk of what would be next for him. Now, it has since been revealed that he decided to retire from boxing as his older brother and trainer confirmed the news.
“My brother Mikey had a great boxing career,” his older brother and trainer, Robert Garcia, told ESPN. “Becoming a five-time champion of the world in four divisions is something very few have done. I am very proud of my brother for everything he accomplished in boxing. Now it’s time for him to enjoy his life together with his family and loved ones.”
Mikey Garcia (40-2) had a phenomenal career as held multiple world championships in four weight classes, including the lineal junior welterweight title from 2018 to 2020. He also held the WBO and The Ring featherweight titles, the WBO junior lightweight title from 2013 to 2014, the WBC and IBF lightweight titles between 2017 and 2019, and the IBF junior welterweight title in 2018. He has also challenged once for the IBF welterweight title in 2019.
Garcia didn’t lose his first fight until he was 39-0 when he dropped a decision to Errol Spence Jr. as he competed for the IBF welterweight title. In his career, he beat the likes of Adrien Broner, Sergey Lipinets, Robert Easter Jr., Jessie Vargas, Roman Martinez, Orlando Salido, and Juan Carlos Burgos among countless others.
